Welcome to The New York City Chapter of The Sierra Club

The Sierra Club's members are more than 1.3 million of your friends and neighbors. Inspired by nature, we work together to protect our communities and the planet. The Club is America's oldest, largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization.

In additional to the Sierra Club's National staff and offices, the Club's volunteer network is organized in regional Chapters and local Groups.  If you are a Sierra Club member living in NYC, you can also connect with the New York State organization (the Atlantic Chapter) or the NYC Group.  There are about 45,000 members in the State, of which  about 15,000 reside in NYC.

Sierra Club NYC Energy Report

"Sustainable Energy Independence for NYC" calls for City officials, as well as civic and business leaders, to begin planning now to buffer the economic impacts when gasoline goes to $5 or $10 per gallon.  Think it won't? Read the report.  The report argues for sustainable policies on economic, job creation and national security grounds in addition to their necessity for climate change response.  By incorporating concern about higher energy costs, future PlaNYC initiatives can get broader public support.
